Cold Warrior –
During my time in Germany I often saw Bundeswehr troops marching along country lanes with helmets hanging from their packs. I’d always assumed they were suspended from the chin straps, but this explains it. As American troops, we always had to wear ours, and they felt heavy, so I figured that the Germans’ helmets were even heavier. Or maybe they just had a more sensible policy on when to wear the helmet and when not to!
This looks like a smart way to do it.
Thx, WWS!

To me, this is one of the most evocative pieces of kit for Germans in WWII. I actually got this before I got my helmet. Used it over four days at Rockford WWII days this past weekend and had half a dozen people ask me where I got it. I am pasting this link to our unit’s FB page. This is a great item and the quality is outstanding. Remember to buy a spare D-ring to attach to your belt. I put the D-ring on my left, rear side so that it didn’t bounce my mauser off of it. Somebody suggested putting it to my front but thought all I would hear was, "Is that a 10-gallon helmet or are you just happy to see me…." Outstanding item. Thanks!
